Shedeur Sanders is the 2025 draft's most polarizing player, but not for the reason you think.

With the 2025 NFL Draft just 9 days away, sports media is drunk with speculation of draft risers and fallers, draft day trades, and more. One player has dominated headlines even more than his talented pass catching/shutdown corner. Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders has been the headliner of too many draft-related segments to count these past months. He's the most polarizing for various reasons, media loves him and others “don’t believe the hype”. However, he's the hot topic because the NFL draft needs buzz, and someone to put under a microscope. Who better than the most consistent QB in this class? I’m here to tell you why I believe Shedeur Sanders will weather the scrutiny and become an NFL Franchise Quarterback.
The NFL draft season is an annual period for all 32 teams to evaluate the prospects aiming to join the best football players in the world. For top prospects, it’s about proving to scouts that speed, agility, and strength showcased on tape is “real”. In addition, players understand scouts assess the football acumen of these players to process information at an NFL level. For a QB like Sanders, the doubts and criticism have never stopped. His narratives thus far have included questions like; “Can he really play or is he just Prime’s son?”, “It’s just an HBCU, can he play at the Power 5 level?”. Shedeur Sanders responded to those questions with 24 starts in Boulder, 7,364 passing yards, 64 touchdowns to 13 interceptions.

Numbers aside, there's still the question of whether or not the son of a Hall of Famer can operate on the professional level despite the Shedeur's consistency . Whether scouts question his arm strength, or disagree with his interview answers, all it takes is one coach and GM to love a player enough to write “Shedeur Sanders” on their card and boom, the pick is in. Will he rise? will he fall? Or will a team trade up because he is their guy? As a former Offensive Lineman myself, Sander’s unwavering confidence and “unbothered” nature is the hallmark of a Franchise Quarterback. A consummate professional in his preparation, leadership, and routine. I believe Shedeur will make any team better if they decide to pick him. As I close, I would like to analyze the several potential landing spots and scenarios that could play out on draft night.
Initially, I tagged New York as a destination due to Sanders’ star power and potential with Coach Daboll. Now that free agency has settled, a match has been made to the New Orleans Saints, and I believe rookie Head Coach Kellen Moore could maximize Shedeur's talent by tailoring the scheme with a rookie QB as they rebuild. Lastly, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been rumored to possibly join the market and trade up for Sanders. I believe with their Legendary Head Coach (Mike Tomlin), and a revamped Wide Receiver room, investing draft capital in the Colorado QB would be wise.
